In 2008-2009 Doherty raised over 49,000 dollars to help the hungry of southern Colorado. Harvest of love began when the current principle, Mr. Vigil decided to gather the Social Studies department together to raise food. That first year the school took two full pickup trucks full of food to the food bank. Every year after that Doherty has raised more and more, in 2008-2009 a fully loaded eighteen-wheel semi-truck was needed to carry all the food down to Care and Share.

As a result of the illnesses, which included two students being sent to the emergency room, the school banned Spike Shooter, and 224 7-Eleven stores in Colorado pulled the drink from store shelves.
