    New Milford Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1672 Commander James Delancy said that the local veterans groups were able to secure sponsors for 550 white bags, with the names of veterans written on them, that were placed on Village Green this week to raise money for Soldier On, which has facilities in Northampton and Pittsfield, Mass., that provide help to a combined 263 homeless veterans.

    An increase in the number of students out with "influenza-like illness" this week prompted Region 12 Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bruce Storm to close all schools in the district until Monday.Dr. Storm hopes the five-day hiatus, which began Wednesday with the Veterans Day holiday, will help reverse an "upward trend of student illness.

    Norman Arnold Terry Jr. passed away on October 14, 2009, at the Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford, CT. Norm was born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 25, 1921, and lived there until 1939, when he moved with his family to the Canal Zone, Panama.

    New Milford's mayoral campaign approached the 11th-hour with Republican incumbent Patricia Murphy greeting voters by the post office and sending a huge mailing as she seeks to become the first person to win a fourth term in that office and her challenger, Robert Coppola, a Democrat who has been endorsed by New Milford First, increasing his door-to-door visits and distributing tote bags.
