    The Sebastian River High School Marching Sharks were first runner-up in the diamond class in the 28th annual Crown Jewel Marching Band Festival held Saturday at Vero Beach High School’s Citrus Bowl. Jensen Beach High School brought home the overall drum major award from the festival and the band was the first runner-up in the emerald class behind grand champion Deltona High School.

  • In November 2006 then-senior Yasmin Gonzalez filed a lawsuit against Okeechobee High School and its Principal Toni Wiersma for not allowing the creation of a chapter of the "Gay-Straight Alliance".[1]
  • On July 30, 2008 the ACLU announced that the lawsuit filed against the Okeechobee County School Board had prevailed and the School was ordered to allow the Gay-Straight Alliance to meet on campus.[2]
