Cypress Creek High School is located in south Orlando, Florida and serves students in grades 9 through 12. Cypress Creek is an IB World School with an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. As an IB World School, CCHS is a local magnet school allowing students from other Orange County, Florida schools to attend. Notable alumni include Phoenix Suns basketball player Amare Stoudemire.
The students that attend Meadow Woods Middle School, South Creek Middle School, and Walker Middle School will be the ones that attend this school when they graduate from their respective middle schools.
The Band: Cypress Creek's marching band placed first in the state for five consecutive years, 1998-2002. The band also made placed in the Bands of America Grand National semi-finals in 2000 (placing 17th) and 2002 (placing 20th).
The Jazz Band under Adam Steff has gotten Superiors at states two years in a row, the 2005-2006 school year and the 2006-2007 school year.
The concert Bands has never made superiors at states.
Cypress Creek Party Radio created by Sid Lunawat: Cypress Creek High School has the only student-run radio station in the county. Its format is party dance music. It uses NexGen, the same software used by other Clear Channel Communications and other radio stations across the country.
It is run by high-school students Grade 10+, and it's taught by the coach John Ashley.
Da Ash (Disco); DJ NZO (JazzFest, The 70's show); DJ Freshy (Study break, Ladies Night, Meet the Bands); DJ Jonny (Battle of The Bands); DJ Will (Morning Jams); DJ ZA; Kat (TGIF); B-G2 (In Concert); JPSK (Morning Jams-Dance Pop); Young Jay (Saturday night special); DJ Jester (sat Night pre party).
Guidance: The guidance counselors for Cypress Creek High School are Vicki Hammonds, Tina Bulled, Brad Grot, Tim Harkins, Teressa Haye, Caren Hubler, Neva Regina Mitchell, Rosalyn Greer, Linda Shaddix, Stephanie Sherman, and Ashley Olson.
AVID: Avid is a college preporatory program that exists at Cypress Creek High School. Avid is an acronym that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The students that have joined the program are finding that with some self motivation and hard work, you can go any college in the country.
IB: The International Baccalaureate Program of Cypress Creek High School is one of the largest in the nation. The program's rigorous curriculum makes it ideal for college-bound students. Students must write an essay, receive excellent recommendations from their middle school teachers, and engage in an interview prior to acceptance. The curriculum, however, limits the students; for example, the students are limited to learning only German or Spanish. Aside from the negative aspects, IB provides the students will a beneficial sense of community that allows them to function almost as a family at school. This sense of community is conducive to their success. Most of the students, if not all, in the IB Program, are college-bound with great ambitions for the future.
