Cypress Creek High School is located in south and serves students in grades 9 through 12.
Cypress Creek is an IB World School with an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. As an IB World School, CCHS is a local magnet school allowing students from other Orange County, Florida schools to attend. Notable alumni include Phoenix Suns basketball player Amar'e Stoudemire from the Class of 2002.
Cypress Creek High School receives graduating students from Meadow Woods Middle School, South Creek Middle School, and Walker Middle School. However, it is a magnet school, so students from surrounding middle schools (e.g. Chain of Lakes, Gotha) also attend Cypress Creek (albeit in smaller numbers).
International Baccalaureate (IB)
The IB Diploma Program is offered at the school and is selected by application. Students from any county may attend the program, but no transportation is provided. The program begins with the freshman taking five Pre-IB courses composed of Biology, Geometry Honors/Algebra I Honors/Algebra II Honors, English I, German/Spanish I or II, and one elective. The sixth class is at a college level which AP Human Geography. The students then move on to take their courses at the next level, but math must be at the Algebra II level by the start of their sophomore year. The students then enter their IB upperclassmen years where their IB credits begin to count and CAS, TOK, and EE begin. IB students usually compose the majority of the top 10% of the class.
Band
The marching band is a six-time Florida Marching Band Coalition Class 4A Champion (in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2007) and was named Grand Champion an unprecedented five times (1998 - 2002) before FMBC eliminated the Grand Champion title (now only class champions are named). The marching band has finished in the top 20 at the Bands of America Grand National Championship twice, in 2000 and 2002, as well as winning division 3A in the 1994 regionals in Atlanta, GA. The wind ensemble has earned superior ratings at Music Performance Assessments and will perform at Carnegie Hall in 2009. The band is currently under the direction of Derek Shapiro and Jeff Willis.
NJROTC
The Naval Junior ROTC program provides an opportunity for cadets to learn valuable leadership skills, citizenship skills, and the value of commitment, honor and courage. The unit provides support to many components of the school including sports, drama, administration, parking, and many clubs.
Movies
The movie Never Back Down, released in 2008, was filmed in part the previous year at Cypress Creek. Several Cypress Creek students served as extras for the film.
Prank
In April of 2009 a school prank received broad media attention. Students placed desks on top of more than twenty portables early one morning as a senior prank tradition.
