POLK AVENUE ELEMENTARY Students in Polk Avenue Elementary's Kindergarten Support Program took a field trip Oct. 29 to visit the Lake Wales Police Department. By JOHN CHAMBLISS THE LEDGER LAKELAND | Other than a nationally ranked football team, Lakeland High School was struggling when Tracy Collins took over as principal in 2008. The school's grade, based on FCAT scores, had been a D since the 2006-07 school year. It hadn't reached a B since 2002. "It was very embarrassing to be a D school," Collins said.
