- Departments
- Academics
-
Carrollton High School (grades 9-12), a three-time Georgia School of Excellence award winner, is recognized across the state and in many national arenas as an innovative, "break the mold" learning environment, as noted in recognitions by Redbook Magazine and U.S. News & World Report.
- Students experience hands-on educational opportunities that make what they learn relevant to their world. State-of-the-art vocational labs allow them to experience work in industries such as broadcasting, printing, engineering, research, and development. A collaboration with the nearby University of West Georgia allows high-achieving students the exclusive opportunity to attend college with the Advanced Academy of Georgia before they graduate.
- Athletics
-
Carrollton's athletics program is a focal point of their school system; CHS athletes compete in the Georgia High School Association's Class 6AAA. Carrollton's athletic facilities have been recognized state-wide; Carrollton is one of only a handful of high schools in the nation to feature a "Jumbo-Tron" on their football scoreboard. It is the fifth-largest scoreboard in the state of Georgia, ranking just behind the Braves Stadium, Georgia Dome, University of Georgia, and Georgia Tech scoreboards, respectively. Carrollton has received numerous "AAA Field of the Year" awards for its baseball field, and commonly plays host to the GHSA's state Cross Country meet, as well as a "Last Chance" Invitational. Best known for their Football and Track & Field programs, football has won seven state championships and track & field has won twenty-four state championships. The football program is the 19th winning-est program in the nation. Carrollton also places emphasis on athletics, having secured over fifty state championship titles in various sports including, but not limited to, soccer, baseball, golf, tennis, swimming, cheerleading, basketball, debate, and wrestling.
- In 2007, work began on a now completed state-of-the-art stadium which features artificial turf, an eight-lane track, and brand new infrastructure (pictured below). Construction on the planned Fine Arts complex is on hiatus due to largely insufficient funding, but is expected to resume and be completed in a short while. Less noted at this time are plans for a new Gym/Fitness Center; the expected location of the site can be located behind the parking lot designated for visitors during sporting events.

The original director was (insert director here) from (insert years here). After (insert direct here), Ernest McClendon led the program from (insert year here) to (insert year here), followed by Don Hall in (insert year here). Robert Carter took over control of the program in 2000 through 2007, eight years which saw massive growth in not only competitive scoring and membership, but also in the complexity and difficulty of the programs. In 2008 Don Hall returned for one year during an interim period of employment-seeking. The 2008-2009 Director of Bands was Dr. Andrea Strauss, formerly the Director of Bands at Georgia Institute of Technology. The current Band Director is Michael Cater, who is an alumni of the Carrollton Band program and was the Band Director at Heard County High School in Franklin, Georgia.
