For new Canton High School principal Dr. Candice Swift, coming to Canton was coming home. "I am originally from Pekin," she said. "I was offered this opportunity (principal at Canton High School) when I was at Plainfield, and I decided to come back to central Illinois."

The financial situation for Canton Union School District 66 is not as bright as it could be, but past actions by the district board of education have kept it from facing the same dire consequences as other districts, according to Assistant Superintendent Robin Tonkin, who presented the tentative budget for fiscal year 2010 at the August board meeting.
