MANITO — The Midwest Central Community School District 191 Board of Education Thursday evening unanimously approved its budget for the 2009-10 school year. According to Superintendent Jerry Meyer, the district projects about $11.9 million in revenue and approximately $11.4 in expenses.

Midwest Central fifth-graders spent a few hours in the 1800s Tuesday, courtesy of the Manito Historical Society. In conjunction with the celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday bicentennial, the society hosted an event that allowed students to spend a day engaging in activities at the site of two Historical Society Museums — the Old Red Schoolhouse and the Old Jail.
