Twenty-two former school buildings sit vacant across Gary, replete with boarded-up windows, graffiti, and crumbling awnings and playgrounds. The buildings were closed mainly due to declining enrollment in Gary and the School Board plans to make final decisions -- whether to retain or sell them -- on the properties by the end of 2009.
