  • City High School is a public high school in Iowa City, Iowa. It was founded in 1938 as part of the Public Works Projects started by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide jobs. The original building still stands in downtown Iowa City but is now used as the Central Administrative Office for the Iowa City Community School District. The new building sits atop a hill on the East side of Iowa City and the tip of the bell tower is said to be the tallest point in Iowa City. City High School excells in several areas. The school motto is "The School that Leads." In addition to dominating in sports for many years, City High also stands out in drama, music, and debate.
  • City High is known around the world for its music department, which has won three Grammy awards.
  • In academics, City High always at the top of the state in terms of ACT and SAT scores.
  • Prominent alumni include Thomas Cech, winner of the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
