  • Olathe East High School is one of four high schools in the Olathe School District. The school opened its doors in the fall of 1992. Olathe East High School was recognized as a National School of Excellence in 1998 by the U.S. Department of Education. "East" has also received the President's National Service Award every year since 2003. The school colors are orange and navy blue, and the school's mascot is the hawk.
  • Location: Olathe East is located in Olathe, Kansas, on 127th Street between Black Bob Road and Pflumm Road. Many attractive and functional features are part of the school. There are classrooms, numerous computer labs including an international language lab, a satellite Communication lab, a writing center and a technology lab. Other features include a main auditorium with 890 seats and a drama theatre with 280 seats; well-equipped media center; publications/journalism center; video production lab; two gymnasiums; and a fully-equipped weight room. East’s 80-acre, tree encircled hilltop site also features a pond which allows for on-site research and field activities for its biology, student naturalist and physical education classes.
  • Athletics: Academics aren't everything at Olathe East. Entering the main gymnasium at Olathe East, one cannot help but notice the regional and state championship banners located all around the gym. There is no question that sports are huge at Olathe East with championship trophies in pretty much every sport. The athletic programs at Olathe East are widely recognized throughout the state for their tremendous success. The Olathe East Hawks athletic teams are Class 6A participants in the Sunflower League and hold membership in the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The Hawks have achieved 23 Kansas State Championships since opening in boys’ baseball, boys’ basketball, boys’ golf, boys’ soccer, boys’ track, girls’ soccer, girls’ swimming and diving, girls’ gymnastics, girls’ softball, and in girls cross-country.
  • Performing Arts: A large number of students at Olathe East are involved in the performing arts programs. The Olathe East Orchestra has performed at the KMEA music festival several times and have been selected to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2007. The Olathe East Band has also received many accomplishments such as receiving all 'I' ratings at the area music festival in March. The band has also just returned from a tour in Hawaii. The OE Choir has sent several students to North East KMEA All District Music Festival along with all the other performing groups at East.
  • Technology: The technology at Olathe East is far greater than most high schools in the United States. The majority of OE students receive a Palm TX at the beginning of the school year which has integrated wifi and bluetooth. Students use their Palms for a variety of purposes including taking notes, reading text, and accessing the Internet. The majority of the school has wifi access and the school will be fully wireless in the upcoming months. All classrooms at OE are equipped with multipurpose projectors which allows teachers to project movies and images from their computer. Some classrooms also have Smartboard technology. Many teachers take advantage of software called Blackboard which allows students to access assignments and take tests from any computer including computers outside of the school network. The Science and Mathematics departments each have classroom sets of laptops. In addition, Olathe East has several computer labs for added integration of technology into the high school curriculum.
