Hope Youth Development hosted a NBA Fit Challenge Competition Saturday at Gonzales Middle School. All participants will be invited to a NBA fitness clinic Jan. 9. 12U Ascension Jaguars place 12th at Division I AAU Nationals (Gonzales Weekly Citizen)

The 12 and under Ascension Jaguars competed in the 12 and under Division I Nationals July 15 - 23 in Hampton, Virginia. 96 teams were in Hampton battling for the right to call themselves National Champions.

The 13U Ascension Jaguars competed in the Division I Nationals June 28 - July 5 in Memphis against 108 teams battling for the right to call themselves National Champions. Ascension opened the tournament by defeating Maryland’s state runner-ups Mt. Royal/Baltimore Elite 53-52 on an last second free throw by Jaquel Gant after trailing 32-12 at halftime.

When it comes to the dreams of the Nwokorie siblings, they aim high. Rophina, Agnes and Placid Nwokorie of Gonzales are fierce competitors. The three siblings simultaneously received the The General Billy Mitchell Award, one of the the Civil Air Patrol’s most prestigious cadet honors, Saturday morning at the Louisiana Regional Airport in Gonzales.
