School Notes:
  • Ellender Memorial High School, is the fourth public high school located in Houma, Louisiana. Ellender Memorial High School was named after the late United States Senator Allen Joseph Ellender. In 1988 it was decided by the Terrebonne Parish School Board that a fourth high school was needed because of overcrouding at South Terrebonne High School. Ellender at that time was a junior high, so with popular votes, it became a high school.
  • However, there were still many decisions to be made about Ellender High School. The graduating class of 1989 had the honor of picking the school colors and mascot. Eventually the "Patriot" was chosen as the official mascot of the newly formed Ellender Memorial High School. The school colors are: red, white, and blue.
  • Throughout the years the class sizes have increased in size and number. Today there are over one thousand students in attendance. The addition of the 4 by 4 program was a big development, and Ellender has gained national recognition in the High Schools That Work program.
