School Reviews

5   5/31/2010
Excellent academics and athletics. Exceptional amount of Honors and AP courses. Very good art program. Perennial state and county contenders in most sports, including football, lacrosse, volleyball and softball. Large and diverse student body. Occasional issues--similar to all high schools--of cyber-bullying, but generally sound discipline. Administration is very good and in tune, particularly academic counseling. 98% of graduates go to college, approximately 85% to four year and 15% to community and junior colleges. BHS is always top 2% of all nation's public high schools by Newsweek. Serves Arnold, Cape St. Claire and St. Margaret's areas of Annapolis and it's northern middle-class suburbs on the Broadneck peninsula--surrounded by Chesapeake Bay (to east), Magothy River (to north) and Severn River (to south). Quick access to Route 50, 30 mins to Baltimore, 30 mins to BWI airport, 45 mins to D.C., 2+ hrs to Md-Del seashore. Most seniors drive to school, most students take dedicated yellow buses. Public transport is poor. Excellent historic sites, boating and county rec programs nearby. For parents' continuing ed, 2 miles from Anne Arundel Community College, typically in the nation's top ten.
