Mount Hebron High School is a public high school located in Ellicott City, Maryland. It is part of the Howard County Public School System.
About the School
Mt. Hebron opened in 1965 as a junior high school. When Patapsco Middle School opened nearby in 1969, Mt. Hebron became a high school. [2]
Geography
Mt. Hebron High School is located in suburban Howard County, approximately 10 miles west of Baltimore. It is on Route 99, Old Frederick Road, just west of U.S. 29 and north of I-70.
Sports
In 1989-90, Daniel Carroll won the County, Region, and 3A State championships in the Polevault for both indoor and outdoor track and field.
Mt. Hebron boys' soccer team was ranked #20 in the nation in 2000.
Mt. Hebron was ranked 671th in Newsweek magazine's "America's Best High Schools" listing[3] in 2006 and was ranked 598th in 2007.
Mt. Hebron had the #1 girls' varsity lacrosse team in the country for five of the past six years. The team won 15 of 16 possible state championships from 1991-2007 and won every possible Howard County championship since the sport's inception. They also hold the national record for consecutive wins, 107.
In 2006, the boys' varsity soccer team won the county championship, 2A/3A regional championship, and the 3A state championship. They ended the season with an undefeated 17-0-4 record, the best in school history.
In 2006, Elizabeth McCarter won the 3A state championship in cross country in a time of 19:49.11.
In 2008, Mt. Hebron's marching unit became the two millionth performers to march across Disney Land's Magic Kingdom.
In 2008, the girls' varsity basketball team won the state championship with an undefeated record of 28-0.
Mt. Hebron's indoor and outdoor track team was ranked in the state.
The 2008 boys' cross country team won the Maryland Regional 2A Championship by placing all 7 runners in the top 13. They followed that up by winning the Maryland State Championship with 57 points, 48 more than the 2nd place team.
In 2009, the lancer drill/dance team won the county-level competition. They became the Division 1 Maryland state champions at the MAPDA competition in 2009 as well. The dance team has also received first place in the National Music Festival competition with superior ratings every year since 2005.
