I just want to tell you that your (Nov. 18) front page story entitled “Battling addiction: father shares story of son’s addiction to warn other parents” was as gripping an example of journalism as I have read in quite some time. I respect Mr. (Bill) Brids and his son (David) for their extraordinary candor and hope that their powerful message will have the impact they are hoping to achieve.
Swine flu vaccines eyed for Braintree students next month (Braintree Forum)

School officials are gearing up to vaccinate students against the H1N1 (or swine flu) virus. During the Nov. 9 school committee meeting, Superintendent of Schools Peter Kurzberg said that seasonal flu vaccinations were administered last month and the H1N1 shots would be given out once the town receives its allotment, tentatively set for early December.

When he served as guest speaker at Braintree’s traditional Veterans’ Day ceremony, held in a standing room only East Middle School auditorium, Chief Warrant Officer Timothy McCarthy, who was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery and recently retired from the U. S. Army Reserves, shared memories of his difficult readjustment to American life after three years of active duty in Iraq.

The townspeople of Braintree can be proud of an impressive showing of respect for, support of, and honor to all veterans on Veterans’ Day 2009. The auditorium at East Middle School was filled, and among those present were Mayor Joseph Sullivan, state Rep. Joseph Driscoll, state Sen. Michael Morrissey, and other town officials.
