Nantucket High School is a comprehensive public high school, located in Nantucket, Massachusetts. It is part of the Nantucket Public Schools district, and the only high school on the island of Nantucket. The School has approximately 500 students enrolled. It is often referred to as "Figawi High" in reference to the lax attitude among the student body. The name derives from Figawi Weekend, an annual sailing race on Nantucket that is centered around excessive drinking and disorderly conduct.
Sports: The Nantucket sport teams are known as the "Whalers" as there is a juvenille Finback Whale skeleton hanging in the commons area of the school that serves as their mascot. The Nantucket Girls Basketball Team is known as the Lady Whalers. Every year the NHS Whalers Varsity Football team plays against the Martha's Vinard Regional High School Vineyarders for the "Island Cup". The Island Cup is played on Nantucket one year then at Martha's Vineyard the next year and continually switches back and forth. the winner keeps the Island Cup trophy until the next year.
