Coon Rapids High School is a high school located at 2340 Northdale Blvd. Coon Rapids, Minnesota, United States. It has an enrollment of about 2800 students in grades nine through twelve. The school colors are scarlet red,white & black. The school mascot is the Cardinal. The school also participates in the University of Minnesota's College in the Schools program.
Overview
Coon Rapids High School is located near the Mississippi River 15 miles north of Minneapolis. The city of Coon Rapids boasts 70,000 residents and is still growing. The school offers advance placement, honors, and standard courses.
Preschool program
The school has a preschool that enrolls 3, 4 and 5 year olds. This program is known as the school readiness program where kids have large group activities, and different learning centers like blocks, computers, games, and art.
Athletics and Activities
Coon Rapids High School has a vast variety of sports that students can get involved in like alpine skiing, hockey, baseball (State Champs '08), basketball, tennis , danceline, soccer, football, cross country, nordic skiing, swimming, track and field, volleyball, wrestling, lacrosse, and cheerleading. In the fall of 2008, the Coon Rapids boys soccer became conference champs for the first time in school history. The team was lead by their captains Emanuel Carr, Josh Biernat, and Adam Pappas along with their coach Jason Jacob.
There are also many activities that students can get involved in like the cardinal image store, drumline (Scolastic A State Champs '08), debate, marching band (Class A State Champs '08), drama club, fine art pictures, link crew, robotics team, student council, and winter colorguard (2nd place @ state finals '08). The school offers a special education program, a student work program, peer mediation, art, student clubs, national honor society, student elective classes, and school within a school alternative program.
Link Crew
Also known as 'Students Helping Students'. Link Crew is a program that has members of the Senior class offer help and advise to the new Freshmen. They meet with the Freshmen almost every Wednesday to answer any questions that they may have.
