PLYMOUTH — Eight students were recognized at the Board of Education meeting Wednesday night for their academic prowess, good citizenship and community service. They were the recipients of the superintendent’s award, which is given each year to two students from each school in the district.
Routine welfare check gets attention of two schools (Marshalltown Times-Republican)

A routine police welfare checked caused some alarm around the community Wednesday morning, but local police say there was no danger. "It was a welfare check on a resident possibly armed," said Capt. Mike Hanken. "Long story short, it was a false alarm." A person talking on the phone to an individual reported they heard what they thought was a gunshot, then the phone went dead.
District deals with state budget cuts (Marshalltown Times-Republican)

State budget cuts are forcing the Marshalltown Community School District to make cuts and shift money around to account for the shortfall. The Marshalltown School Board is considering a tentative plan to deal with Gov. Chet Culver's 10 percent across-the-board cut which means $2.5 million less in state funding for the district during the current school year.

Another step in the Fisher Elementary School renovation process was approved by the Marshalltown School Board at its meeting Monday. The board approved preliminary plans and designs for the project, which is expected to include classroom additions, a new gym and major remodeling.
