Located in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Simley High School had its first graduating class in 1961. The school was named after I.T. Simley, the retired Superintendent of Schools from South St. Paul who served as a consultant to Inver Grove Heights during the district’s transition years. Simley’s first graduating class was the Class of ’61, with 19 graduates. The building connects with Inver Grove Heights Middle School.
I.T. Simley
I.T. Simley was superintendent for South St. Paul schools. After retiring from this position he became a consultant for the Inver Grove Heights School District. He helped in the building of Inver Grove's first high school. Before this, students from Inver Grove's middle schools would attend South St. Paul High School.
Sport
In the fall of 2007, head coach Ray Betton's football team won Classic Suburban Conference championship for the first time in school history.
Now, our football team couldnt win a game even if we played a pee wee team. They shared it again with St. Thomas Academy in 2008.The wrestling team won the 2008 state championship in Class AA, then defended its title in 2009. That team included 189-pound individual state champion Mic Berg.
Academic Teams
Simley holds a tradition of academic excellence, exemplified by its several academic teams.The Speech team competed at events across the Metro area in 2009, winning the small-school title at the Eden Prairie competition and placing fourth among all schools at the Bloomington Jefferson competition, along with an eighth place finish at Lakeville North out of 25 schools, 4th of 18 at Centennial, and its first entry in 2 years.The Quiz/Knowledge Bowl teams wrapped up a strong 2008-09 campaign with a 4-6 finish at the National Quiz Bowl Championships in Chicago.
