JONESBORO — It took some patience and skill, but Brenton Hicks was ready for the challenge. The ninth-grader at Nettleton Junior High School studied the assorted nails before him and knew exactly what he had to do to get them in perfect balance on top of a slender apparatus.

Kids across Region 8 are used to participating in various in school drills throughout the school year. Some schools in the area take those drills a step further. Nettleton Public Schools practice "lockdown" drills with the teachers, staff, and students. They say circumstances in the past ten years have forced them to take this step.

JONESBORO — Two men believed to be involved in a drug deal were shot in the leg Friday when a third man tried to rob the other two, police said.
