- Chaparral High School in Temecula, California, is a public high school for grades 9-12. The school opened in 1997 with a class of Freshmen and Sophomores, and added Juniors the following year and Seniors after that, graduating its first class in 2000. It is Temecula's second high school after Temecula Valley. It became a California Distinguished School in 2001.

Ethnically the student body is 57% White, 21% Hispanic, 5% Filipino, 5% Black, 4% Asian, 1% Native American and 7% Other. Five percent of the student body is classified by the district as English limited. It has approximately 3,250 students and 130 teachers and staff members. 11% of the student body is eligible for free government lunches, compared to the state average of 45%.

Chaparral High School was the second comprehensive high school built in the Temecula Valley Unified School District. When its doors opened in 1997, there was much jockeying for the opportunityto teach at the "New" high school. It has enjoyed much academic and extracurricularsuccess, including the honor of being the first high school to achieve Distinguished High Schoolstatus. Former Principal Dan Kenley, a proud Puma himself, is quick to point out some of the unique elements of thecampus, which include a comprehensive exchange program with our sister city, Voorburg, in the Netherlands.Students visited the campus as a group, and seemed enthusiastic about their experience. The Dare to ConnectProgram has brought the campus closer together as well. Chaparral had a chance to show its true colors and“heart” during the firestorms, and they made the most of it. Staff and students alike rallied to support the evacueeshoused on their site. In October 2008, Dan Kenley announced his resignation as principal of Chaparral. Due to his wife's ailing health, they decided to move upstate to be closer to family. Former Vice Principal Tom Pack came out of retirement to serve as the interim principal for the 2008-2009 school year. In 2009 the TVUSD officially hired Gil Compton as the new principal of Chaparral, starting in the 2009-2010 school year.

Chaparral has 18 different sports that qualify for a varsity letter. Its mascot is the Puma.
- Fall Sports

Chaparral saw its first visit to CIF SS playoffs in December 2002. With an average of 30 points per game it ended with a loss to Riverside North HS at the playoffs. In 2009, the football squad won its first CIF Inland Division title with a 13-7 victory over rival Vista Murrieta High School. It was its first title in three championship game tries (2006,2008). Chaparral also has a Volleyball, Cross Country, Girls Tennis and a Girls Golf.

Chaparral has teams for Track & Field, Swimming, Baseball, Softball, Boys Golf, and Boys Tennis teams that participate in the winter season. The 2008 Varsity Boys Track & Field 4 x 100 relay team placed 3rd at the Relay of Champions. It was the first time the team had medaled there. That relay team consisted of D. Lines, A. Muhaymin, A. Bell, and T. Hansen.

Chaparral has teams for Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Water Polo, and Wrestling in the winter season.The Chaparral High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team is 2008 Southwestern League Champions.

- ASB (Associated Student Body)

At Chaparral High School, the ASB works behind the scenes planning and executing multiple events for the student body, such as: dances, rallies, and spirit/dress up days. The ASB is composed of Chaparral students, who are either elected to a position such as President, by the students, or are appointed to a position by the Council, which is composed of the: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, for the upcoming year. To be in ASB, all members are required to take the Leadership 2 class for the year. The official motto of the CHS ASB is: "Leading Pumas to leave their own tracks." The current leader of the ASB at Chaparral is July Hill-Wilkinson
- Cheerleading

There are three cheerleading teams at Chaparral: Varsity, JV, and Freshman. There are roughly 60 girls currently participating in Pep squad. Cheerleading tryouts take place at the end of the school year for the following school year. Chaparral owns two mascot suits and tryouts for the mascot happen every fall.

The Platinum Sound was founded by Jerry Burdick-Rutz who left the school after the 2004 school year to found the Oak High School music program. The Platinum Sound participates in the Western Band Association Circuit as well as the United States Scholastic Band Association. They ended the season placed 1st in the Inland Valley and 11th in the state at the WBA championships. Finals.

The Chaparral ROTC is based on the United States Navy forming the NJROTC. It has unarmed and armed drill teams. Chaparral also hosts an armed drill team competition every October it has over 30 schools participate.

Chaparral High is ranked 728 by Newsweek's annual top 1000 high schools in America. The average dropout rate of the school is 1% while 89% graduate and 38% graduate meeting either University of California or Cal State entry requirements.
- Theater

Along with a theater department, Chaparral also has an Improv team (C.A.T.) which has won 1st and 3rd place at the Fullerton Theater Competition. They hold monthly shows in the Performing Arts Center on campus.Chaparral Actors' Troupe recently won two first place trophies at Mission Viejo's RoleAbout Theatre Festival in the Classic Scene category and Film Scene category. They are now working on the 1946 classic It's a Wonderful Life to be performed December 2009. The CHS theater groups also plans to premiere their first original musical, "Antoinette Archer: God Warrior" in the Spring of 2010. "Antoinette Archer: God Warrior" is the story of a teenage girl caught between keeping her faith and living in modern American society.

At Chaparral, there are dozens of clubs that students can join on campus. From service clubs such as Interact and Key Club to Ethnic clubs like the Pinoy and LASO club, there is almost a club for everyone. In order to establish a club, each year members are required to submit a club constitution to the ASB, stating their purpose and a teacher advisor. Once the constitution is approved by the ASB, clubs are allowed to have coverage in the Prowler yearbook for that year. At the beginning of every year, ASB holds club rush, in which the clubs on campus gather in the quad to recruit members. This event gives students the opportunity to visually see all of the possible clubs in which to join.
- Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a club at Chaparral High School that prepares for a regional, state, and national Science Olympiad competitions. The Chaparral team has 1 power team consisting of ~15 people. Throughout the year members prepare for their various events in the fields of science such as written tests, labs, or building events. For the past few years, Puma Science Olympiad has gone to state finals after making successful wins at regionals, but has never made it to nationals.
