North Bergen High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school, serving students in ninth through twelfth grade from North Bergen, in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States, as part of the North Bergen School District.
Students from Guttenberg attend the school as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Guttenberg Public School District.
As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 3,399 students and 151.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 15.8.
The school was the 284th-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 316 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2008 cover story on the state's Top Public High Schools. The school was ranked 285th in the magazine's September 2006 issue, which surveyed 316 schools across the state.
North Bergen High School was recognized as a "Benchmark Public High School for Academic Achievement" by the Business Coalition for Education Excellence, for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Clubs
Clubs and other extracurricular groups in North Bergen High School include the Muslim Cultural Awareness Club (MCAC), Art Club, Academic Decathlon Team, Bible Club, Cheerleaders, Chess Club, Color Guard, Debate Team, Distributive Education Clubs of America, The Environmental Club, FBLA-PBL, French Club, GLBT Club, German Club, Italian club, French National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Rebel, Stage Crew, Modeling club, Drama club, Dance club, Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, The Advanced Sciences Club Music Creation (M.C),indina cultural club, and alsooo Advanced Music Creation (A.M.C). As of March 2009 a Gay-Straight Alliance Club has also been created.
Members of the Key Club, National Honor Society and the Student Council volunteer their time during township/school events to help the event to be successful.
Athletics
N.B.H.S is home to the Bruins Stadium located in James J. Braddock Park serves as the home field for the football and soccer teams. The Tennis Courts at James J. Braddock Park serve as the home courts. N.B.H.S gymnasium serves as the home field for other sports. The Bruins compete in the Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic Association (HCIAA), which includes 22 private and parochial high schools in Hudson County. The league operates under the supervision of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).
Sports programs are Boys Football, Boys/Girls Basketball, Boys Baseball, Girls Softball, Boys/Girls Tennis, Cross Country, Boys/Girls Soccer, Boys/Girls Volleyball, Bowling, Boys Wrestling, etc. The Bruins Cross Country 2007 season came with a surprising third place finish at the NJSIAA state sectional after many years without placing and qualifying.
N.B.H.S Boys Tennis team came in 3rd place in the HCIAA finals after a 4-1 loss against their arch rival the Bayonne Bees. The 1st doubles team in the Boys Tennis team were recognized as the top 1st Doubles team in Hudson County. During the 2006 season the boys tennis team defeated Bayonne High School first time in 15 years and during the 2007 season NBHS beat Bayonne again (3-2).
On March 5, 2007, the boys' basketball team played in the North I, Group IV state championship, falling to Passaic County Technical Institute by 86-85 in overtime, in a game played at Wayne Valley High School.
