  • Tenafly High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in grades nine through twelve from Tenafly, New Jersey, United States, as part of the Tenafly Public Schools. Students from the neighboring community of Alpine attend the school as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Alpine Public School.
  • As of the 2006–07 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,052 students and 86 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 12.2.
  • Awards and recognition
  • Tenafly High School was awarded the prestigious Blue Ribbon School Award, awarded by the United States Department of Education at a special assembly to the Tenafly High School Community on September 20, 2005. Tenafly was the only high school in New Jersey and one of 38 public high schools in the U.S. to receive the 2005 Blue Ribbon School Award.
  • The school was the second-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 316 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2008 cover story on the state's Top Public High Schools. The school was ranked 2nd in the magazine's 2006 rankings out of 316 schools included across the state.
  • In Newsweek's May 22, 2007 issue, ranking the country's top high schools, Tenafly High School was listed in 928th place, the 2nd-highest ranked school in New Jersey.

  • Tenafly High School's Lalor Library Media Center features a professional television studio located in the center of the library (perhaps the first and only library to so closely integrate television broadcast within a working library) supported by a television control room located in a one-time AV storage room. Live local access broadcasting as well as World Wide Web streaming enables in-house productions and presentations to be broadcast and shared worldwide.
  • EXPERIENCE
  • In the heart of Tenafly High School experience the facilities of the Lalor Library Media Center. Integrating media of all kinds in a unique 10,000+ square-foot complex, it is the place for reading, research, study, preparation and production. This complex houses over 22,000 volumes, an electronic reference center, online subscribed resources, 70+ magazine subscriptions, more than 2000 video recordings, and an extensive classical music CD collection.
  • EXPLORATION AND IMPRESSION
  • Students are encouraged to explore topics related to coursework and also discover new interests in spacious and welcoming surroundings. Our library and its contents are designed to encourage students' knowing and liking the world. State-of-the-art technology and a wide range of resources make research efficient and allow students to gain new and different impressions concerning subjects of all kinds.
  • CREATIVE EXPRESSION
  • As students build knowledge concerning various topics, creative expression is encouraged. Included within the library media center complex is a media production lab, and a fully equipped professional television studio flanked with bookshelves with a courtyard as backdrop. The studio regularly broadcasts programs and events locally and internationally on a wide range of topics.

  • Athletics and extracurricular activities
  • Tenafly is noted for its competitive debate team which has been awarded numerous awards over the years.In recent years, the debate team came in first in overall standings in 1999–2000, 2001–2002, 2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005, and 2006-2007. The team placed second in 2005-2006. Also, the winner of the 2000-2001 season is unclear as the caretaker of the website has done a poor job of making sure all parts of the site function correctly.
  • The Tenafly High School Tigers compete in the Bergen County Scholastic League (BCSL) American Conference, made up of private and public high schools located in Bergen County and Hudson County. The league operates under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). The school nickname is the Tigers, and its school colors are consequently black and orange, with a nod to those of Princeton University.
  • Tenafly is noted for its tennis team (currently being coached by Anthony Zorovich).The boys tennis team won the 2006 Group II State Championship, defeating Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School 3-2 in the semifinals and West Essex High School 3-2 in the finals to take the title. In 2007, the Boy's Tennis Team won the state sectionals defeating Dwight Morrow High School 5-0 to win the North I, Group II championship, the team's sixth consecutive sectional title. The team moved onto win the 2007 NJSIAA Group II State Championship, defeating Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School 3-2 in the final match to earn their fourth consecutive Group II State Championship.
  • In addition, the Tenafly boys tennis team has won 27 out of the past 28 BCSL American championships (1982-1995, 1997-2009).
  • In 2007, the girls tennis team took the North I, Group II state sectionals with a string of 5-0 wins over Westwood Regional High School in the quarterfinals, Newton High School in the semis and Pascack Hills High School in the finals. The win was the eighth sectional title in team history. The team took the Group II State Championship with a 3½-1½ win over Haddonfield Memorial High School in the semifinals and Manasquan High School in the finals by a 3-2 score.
  • Tenafly also has had very successful Ice Hockey and football teams. Their ice hockey team has merged with Cresskill High School to form one team under the name "The Tigers".
  • Tenafly's bowling team is coached by James Stanek.
