On Sept. 19, nearly 170 volunteers working in six areas along the Mokelumne River removed 2,290 pounds of trash and 1,400 pounds of recyclables from the river and its banks.

Flag football begins its season on Sunday, Sept. 27 at Jackson Junior High School. First- to third-graders play at noon, followed by fourth- through sixth-graders at 1 p.m. and seventh- and eighth-graders at 2 p.m. The registration fee is $50 per player - $40 for additional immediate family members.

A crowd of students gathered in front of Argonaut High School Tuesday morning, Sept. 1, to wave signs and cheer at cars passing by. The students were celebrating near a huge banner that read "Thank you City of Jackson" for one simple reason - walking to school just became a whole lot safer for them.

There will be a free hands-on electronics seminar on using sonar, fish finders, GPS and mapping on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Angels Gun Club. This three-hour seminar will cover basic to advanced.

Sierra College tennis coach and former tennis star at Argonaut High School Brad Harris is returning to his home town to share his knowledge with kids aged 5 to 14. The City of Jackson and the Amador Tennis Club are collaborating on this program.
