School Reviews

5   9/24/2016
Overall, the school is decent. Comparatively to many New York schools, educational opportunities are quite high. In total, our school has 37 or more ap/collage level classes available for students to choose from, and just as many, if not more, honors level classes available to students who are capable. There is a large amount of courses available in many different subject areas. Graduation rate and proficiency in math and reading is significantly higher than state average. Do not let these statistics fool you, however. There are a semi-large amount of teachers who students would agree are not "quality" teachers (meaning they are seemingly non-proficient in their subject area or cannot maintain control of their students). There is a heroin epidemic in the area that doesn't eliminate itself from the school district. There is a significant lack of diversity. Most students are a combination of east European heritage, predominately Italian, Irish, German, and Polish. The small minority (which must be somewhere around 15% or lower) is mostly hispanic. Bullying is common, and because the town thrives on tradition, there are many cliques (which isn't particularly abnormal). Overall, I would rate the school a 6.5/10.
