The student population is approximately 3616 in grades 7 through 12. Mayfair serves students in the cities of Lakewood, Bellflower, and Cerritos. He helped Mayfair win its first Subarban title since 2001 and defeated alumni rival Cerritos. They sucess led them to a quarterfinal debut in the CIF, but were not off by Christian High School. However in that year Corey Gaines was honored as the tenth student in Mayfair to be named CIF player of the year, and first to be named CIF Tennis player of the year. • Competitive Anomaly
  • At the CIF Southern Section Council meeting on October 23, 2008, a committee of public and private schools put forth a proposal to declare Mayfair High School athletic teams a "competitive anomaly," in an effort to deal with competitive equality issues between public and private school athletic programs. To be declared a "competitive anomaly," leagues within the CIF Southern Section would vote on whether or not to declare a school dominant within their respective league, thus forcing that school to leave their league and play on a freelance schedule.
  • The criteria to declare a school a "competitive anomaly" would be playing in the Southern Section playoffs five consecutive years, having a dominant won-loss record against league schools over five years and winning the vast majority of its league games by excessive margins over the previous five years. Schools that are already being considered as a "competitive anomaly" are Southern Section powerhouses Orange Lutheran, Dominguez, Long Beach Poly, and Mayfair.
