Annette Sipe, a nearly 20-year teacher from Eastern Elementary School in Washington was crowned Beaufort County’s Teacher of the Year for 2009-2010. Chocowinity Primary School’s Maria Gironda, a newcomer by comparison, took runner-up honors in a field of highly talented candidates.
Adult Spelling Bee Brings Competition (WITN 7 North Carolina)

About 22 teams participated in the adult team spelling bee at P.S. Jones Middle School sponsored by the Washington/Beaufort County Chamber Of Commerce. The fundraiser helps bring money to educational efforts in the county.

Students in more Beaufort County schools passed end-of-grade exams this year, but several schools and the system as a whole failed to meet their targets under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, according to a preliminary report released this week by Beaufort County Schools.
