The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department has secured $1.1million in federal stimulus money to begin the West Branch Rocky River Greenway in Davidson.

The new Pendergast Elementary could be the first ''green'' elementary school in Maricopa County and the third in Arizona. The $14.2 million school cost 6 percent more than an average K-8 school by going green. The west Phoenix campus should operate at 35 percent increased energy efficiency in the first year, for an annual savings of about $42,000.
