  • Improved math scores goal at TMS (The Advertiser-Tribune)

    Tiffin Middle School's principal and teachers are looking at ways to improve math scores on Ohio Achievement Tests. Principal Robert Boes shared reading improvement plans during last month's Tiffin City Board of Education meeting and returned to the board Tuesday to discuss math improvement plans.

    A dryer located in a work room between the kitchen and a custodial storage area at Tiffin Middle School caught fire Monday evening, causing minimal damage to the room. Tom Anway, director of operations for Tiffin City Schools, said the custodial and maintenance staff was called in, and classes are to go on as usual today.

    Morgan Cranmore (left), a fourth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School, and Noah Rees, a fourth-grader at Krout Elementary School, participate in Saturday's chess tournament at Tiffin Middle School. The Harvesting Excellence in Gifted and Highly Talented Students program sponsored the tournament for students in grades 3-8, and 40 students participated. Cranmore won the match.
  • TCS addressing reading achievement scores (The Advertiser-Tribune)

    Administrators and teachers at Tiffin Middle School have a plan in place to improve the building's reading scores. Scott Urban, director of instruction and personnel, said he challenged Principal Robert Boes to pull together his team and take four days to create a plan to increase reading achievement for student.
  • No H1N1 cases confirmed in county (The Advertiser-Tribune)

    Seneca County had no laboratory-confirmed cases of H1N1 as of Thursday, but people are exhibiting symptoms similar to those of H1N1. Jenifer Bayer, director of nursing for the Seneca County Health District, said the health district is seeing reports of people exhibiting influenza-like illness, and officials typically don't see a lot of influenza-like illness in Ohio in October.
