- Roy C. Start High School is a public high school in western Toledo, Ohio, United States. The school opened in 1962 and is part of the Toledo Public Schools. It was named after Roy C. Start, two-time mayor of Toledo and founder of the West Toledo YMCA. The school building was recently demolished and a new building is now in place. Students have been attending the new Start since the new semester in January 2008. The only part of the original Roy C. Start High School building in use is the auditorium (which currently is being remodeled by the YMCA) and is attached to the new building. Although Start is a public school, students are required to adhere to a dress code during the school day. (tan, brown, blue pants with any solid colored collared shirt)

Start's baseball team, lead by long time head coach Rich Arbinger, Start baseball has 2 state championships in the last twenty years (1994, 2000). In 1994 Start finished a 31-0 season with the school's first state title, and was named national champion. The 2000 team went 25-3 and added a second state crown. The Spartans lost in the big-school finals in 1987,1997 and 2005, and also reached the state semifinals in 1993 and 1995.
- In the decade of the 1990s alone, Start posted a 260-34 mark that was unmatched among Ohio high schools over that span. During that period the Spartans have regularly been ranked in USA Today's national top-25.
- Coach Rich Arbinger was elected into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2007, the baseball diamond at Bowman Park in Toledo was officially renamed "Rich Arbinger Field"

In 2002, The Spartans named Pat Gucciardo as their new Football Coach. Gucciardo's pass happy offense has completely changed the face of the Toledo City League Football. Formally a running league, most TCL teams have gone to a version of the "Spread Offense" to keep up with the Spartans high powered assault; even though the Spartans haven't legitimately contended for a City Title since the 1970s, and also had a chance to enter in the 2007 playoffs. At the end of the season they were tied for third with St. Johns. The Spartans had defeated St. Johns in an earlier game in the season at home 28-23 the spartans were devastated to learn that because of the point system they would be denied there dream of going to the playoffs. In stead of the playoffs they where eligible for the hall of fame game at home. The hall of fame game lets the top two teams that didn't make it to the playoffs play one more game. The spartans finished with a better record then the Clay Eagles and had homefield advantage. The spartans had a great plan of attack, spread the eagles out wide and attack the short side. They pulled their guard (Robert Harder #74) around the end to give lead blocks to their tailback (Troy Bell #1) Bell 28 carries 263 yards, and through the air Leestma 11/16 143 yards 2TDs, Rodgers 4/68, Norton 3/35. The class of '08 did great things that haven't happened for the spartans in a long time. A playoff hope and Gucciardos first 1-0 start as the Spartans head coach and finished 7-4 for their season the best record they had in about ten years. Gucciardo's quarterbacks have led the league in passing for the past 7 seasons. Unfortunately for Gucciardo, the Spartan quarterbacks have also led the Toledo City League in turnovers, accounting for an average of 4.4 per game (3.2 interceptions/1.2 fumbles). This, more than anything has kept the Spartan's from compiling a winning record under Gucciardo for the past 7 years. Start's biggest rival is the Whitmer Panthers, located only 1 mile from Start High School. This rivalry is referred to locally as "The Battle of Tremainsville", as Start is located on the Tremainsville Road and Whitmer is located right off it, less than two miles to the northwest. In 2003 this rivalry became a Toledo City League contest. Prior to 2003, this game was played the first week of the season. Known for its high powered passing offense, Start has produced the top two passers in City League History in the last five years, Brad Leestma (c/o '08) and Mike Berman (c/o '06). Start football notable alumni includes former Carolina Panthers defensive back Marvin Ham (c/o '90).
