Communities are observing Veterans Day with observances starting Sunday. The observances include these: Yorktown: The annual Yorktown Veterans Day Parade will be held in Shrub Oak. The year's speaker is Maj. Tracy Norman, principal of George Washington Elementary School in Mohegan Lake, who served two tours in Iraq with the U.S. Army National Guard.

With the H1N1 vaccine's arrival in Oklahoma, many school-aged children will be receiving the vaccine soon.The Cleveland County Health Department in conjunction with Norman Public Schools conducted the first-school based H1N1 vaccine clinic at Washington Elementary School before students left on fall break last week, said Sharon Howard, NPS health services coordinator.

Ishana Bandoo , of Maywood, a student at Washington Elementary School, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Through Sept. 12, Bandoo will be with a select group of students in Washington, D.C., to study leadership and explore some of the United States' most prominent monuments and institutions.
