- Central Mountain High School is a public high school located in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, USA.
- School History
-
Central Mountain High School is one of two high schools in the Keystone Central School District, the other being Bucktail High School. Keystone Central is the geographically largest school district in Pennsylvania. Central Mountain's colors are royal blue, light blue and white, and their mascot is the Wildcat. The school is the combination of three other high schools, Lock Haven High School, Bald Eagle-Nittany High School, and Sugar Valley High School, which were heavy rivals in the past. Construction of the building began in 1997 and the school was opened for the 1999-2000 school year. It was designed by the Quad 3 construction group.
- Sports
-
Central Mountain sports are football, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls tennis, wrestling, track and field, golf, swimming, softball, and baseball. The school participates in PIAA. The school qualifies as an AAAA school but some sports play in AAA competition. They also participate in the newly formed Mountain Athletic Conference
- SADD & Stand Tall
-
Both of these organizations are committees of students dedicated to reducing the amount of underage drinking in their community. During the summer of '07 Stand Tall sent three representatives to the 2007 National SADD convention in New Orleans, LA. These three students were Stand Tall president Jeffrey Koch, 12th grade representative Chris Eck, and 11th grade representative Vanessa Szuch.
- Enrichment
-
Central Mountain takes part in the Scholastic Scrimmage televised high school quiz bowl tournament on WPSU-TV. In the 2008/2009 academic year, Central Mountain made it to the second round of the tournament for the first time ever.
- The Arts
-
Central Mountain also has a variety of clubs (like drama). The school Marching Band is particularly small considering the student enrollment (about 20 people in the band). However the school also has two Majorette squads, a Colorguard squad, and a Percussion ensemble. These groups all participate in various class in TIA, each year spending half a week in Wildwood, New Jersey, where many of the groups have placed in their respective events. They also have an orchestra. Also the Central Mountain Choir (aka Central Mountain Sound). They have been featured on WNEP Channel 16 News Christmas of '07 and sang musical selections for 45 minutes.
- Trivia
- Sugar Valley High School was first consolidated into Bald Eagle-Nittany High School beginning with the 1996-1997 school year.
- Bald Eagle-Nittany's school colors were Black/White/Silver. Lock Haven's school colors were Purple/White/Gray. Sugar Valley's school colors were Green/White.
- The school (Central Mountain) colors, name, and mascot were originally intended to be chosen by a vote between all three high schools in 1998. A student panel with representation from all three schools convened and compiled a list of nominees for each category which was then submitted to the entire student body of each school for voting. The color combination of Black/Purple/White received an overwhelming majority of student votes. However, school board officials, who independently decided that there should be no remnants of the former high schools, instead chose to use Royal blue/Light blue/White, the distant second leading vote-getter among students, as the new school's official colors. Other names considered included Susquehanna West High School and Keystone High School. Other mascot options included the Wolverines and the Goats.
- CMHS made adequate yearly progress last year ('06), by the graduating class of '07 and yet again by the Class of '08 , passing the PSSA.
- Central Mountain is where Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould attended High School.
