It was Pat Tate's first day at Mauldin High School, in 1982. His math teacher, Ben Reid, called roll and then began writing problems on the board.

Mauldin High School in Mauldin, South Carolina, was established in 1927. With an enrollment of about 2400, it is part of the Greenville County School District.
Sports
The school has had many state championships in all of its different sports. Mauldin is well known for its successful baseball program. The Mavericks have won three state championships. The first was in 1993 over Sumter. The Mavericks defeated Richland Northeast to win the 2000 state title. In 2004, the Mavericks swept Stratford High School in a best-of-three series for the state title.
In 2007 the girls cross country team won state for the third time in a row.
In 2008, the Speech and Debate team claimed the state championship for the fourth consecutive year and had three national qualifiers. In 2009, they claimed their 5th consecutive 4A Championship, and had 5 members qualify.
