Air Force Airman 1st Class Mark J. Causey and Air Force Airman Chloe L. Waters graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Causey, a 2002 graduate of North Salinas High School, is the son of Virginia Causey of Salinas.

[HEREFORD - The high school's welding lab sparked with activity Tuesday as nearly 100 students from 14 schools were in town for the West Texas Weld-Off, a competition conducted to help welding students prepare for a district contest in February.

Steve Wille, head of the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau, said he and the agency have "parted ways." Wille, who led the agency for a year, made the comment in an e-mail to members Monday. He did not immediately return a phone call from The Herald on Wednesday.
