School Notes:
  • Bolsa Grande High School is part of the Garden Grove Unified School District in southern California. Proximate zones to the school include Little Saigon, Korean District, Santa Ana. The school is known for increasingly improved academics.
  • Athletics
  • Bolsa Grande's sports teams are known as the Matadors, and compete in the Garden Grove League of the California Interscholastic Federation's Southern Section with five other GGUSD schools.
  • The Matador football team won the CIF Central Division championship in 1986 led by coach Greg Shadid, but struggled immensely thereafter. They suffered an Orange County record 43 consecutive losses from 1999 to 2003. The streak was broken when Bolsa defeated their rival La Quinta High School in the final game of the 2003 season.
  • The track & field team also boasts commendable accomplishments. In 2004, the Girls’ Varsity won their first league championship for the first time in Bolsa Grande history. Prominent athletes were hurdler Lena Bui, jumper Cynthia Nguyen, long distance runners Rocio Pelayo and Gabriela Santana, and sprinters Amy Ta and Klarissa Stovall. The team was undefeated and maintained this streak during the following year, hence overthrowing their long-time rivals, the Pacifica Mariners. The matadors were led by head coach Corey Dickson, whose disciplinary policies were as tough as his physical and dietary demands on the youngsters. Whereas spectators feared him, the team members venerated his character as inspirational and necessary for shaping their mental and physical potency.
  • Distinguished School
  • Bolsa Grande has just recently been recognized as a distinguished school in California. Bolsa will remain a distinguished school until 2011. Bolsa was one of few schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District to receive this title.
  • Notable alumni

Jerry Carr (Class of 1968): Played professional baseball with the California Angels and St. Louis Cardinals. Carr, an RHP, played for head coach Mike Hall. Carr played for five years before knee surgery halted his career.
  • Marching Band
  • The marching Matadors like the picture above, represent Bolsa Grande High School. They perform during football season on the football field during half-time.The band director is John Miller, and percussion director is Nate Cisneros. Won first place in their division at Estancia High School Competition on Saturday, October 18, 2008. They also won first place recently at their home field in the Westminister Show.
  • Facilities
