  • Sunset High School is a public secondary school located in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas (USA). Sunset High School enrolls students in grades 9-12 and is a part of the Dallas Independent School District. It was opened in 1925 as the second high school in the Oak Cliff area; as such, its main rival is Adamson, which is the oldest high school in the Oak Cliff area.
  • The school serves a portion of Dallas. It will serve a portion of Cockrell Hill.
  • The mascot is the Bison (not the Bisons; Bison is both singular and plural); it was chosen since early students had to cross open fields to get to school.
  • Notable alumni: Current DISD Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa is a Sunset High School alumnus. 40's film star Linda Darnell also attended Sunset and was a member of the class of June, 1941.
  • Wimberly Goodman (Class of '36)played Sargent Garcia in the Disney TV series "Zorro". Golf great Don January graduated in the mid or late-40s. Jerry Rhome quarterbacked the Bison football team '59-'61. He was a back-up quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys for almost a decade, and is currently one of the most highly respected quarterback coaches in the NFL.
  • Fundraising: Sunset Foundation Inc. is a group of alumni who raise money and award college scholarships to Sunset High School students.
