Agoura High competes in the Marmonte League of the CIF Southern Section. Their traditional rival in football is Calabasas High School although Agoura's biggest rival in football is Westlake High located just several miles down Thousand Oaks Boulevard. After 12 straight years of losing (1996–2007), Agoura defeated Westlake 23–22, October 3, 2008, after Westlake controversially missed a 41-yard field goal attempt in the waning seconds. Video replay suggests the ball may have passed through the goal and then caromed back off the gooseneck. The 2004 and 2006 matchups also brought controversial finishes, with those two in favor of Westlake. In 2004, Westlake returned a kickoff for a touchdown on the final play that featured several laterals and with one player supposedly down before lateraling, similar to The Play in 1982 between Cal and Stanford. The finish made it to ESPN's SportsCenter. In 2006, in double overtime, Agoura supposedly scored the winning touchdown, but fumbled in the endzone and Westlake recovered. The officials thought that Agoura had fumbled before the ball crossed the goal line and called a touchback giving Westlake a controversial 26-23 victory.
