- Herndon High School is a fully accredited four year public high school in Herndon, Virginia, United States. Herndon serves grades 9-12 and is a part of the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) system. Herndon High School serves the town of Herndon and the northern part of the unincorporated community of Reston. The school has a student body representing over 69 countries. Herndon's mascot is the Fighting Hornet. The school plays a small role as a team in the film Remember the Titans. It is consistently ranked in the top 200 high schools in the country according to Newsweek's list of America's Top Public Highschools, and was ranked 161 out of 1300 (the top 5% of high schools in the U.S.)in 2008.

Herndon High School opened in 1911 at 901 Locust Street. In 1930, seventy-one students enrolled, with classes such as economics (no longer available), agriculture, and business education offered, with classes in industrial arts later offered. In 1942, the school opened the first school cafeteria in Fairfax County. In the early 1950s, the building was expanded to support more students.
- In 1961, Herndon Intermediate School began within the Herndon High School building. In 1967, the High School moved to its current Bennett Street location, leaving Herndon Intermediate School at Locust Street with 650 students and 39 teachers.
- At the start of the 2008 school year Herndon boasted a student enrollment of 2,180 students and approximately 200 staff members.

Herndon High School is a fully accredited high school based on the Standards of Learning tests in Virginia. The average SAT score in 2006 for Herndon was 1579 (525 in Critical Reading, 540 in Math, and 514 in Writing).

Herndon's mascot is a Fighting Hornet and their sports teams play in the Concord District of the Northern Region of the Virginia High School League.
- Music department

The Herndon Music Department consists of the Band, Orchestra, Guitar, and Choir. Performances range from seasonal performances, where all four musical groups can play together, to individual group performances and competitions. Richard Bergman was the director of the Band from 1978 to 2008. Under Bergman the Band received state and national recognition for its concert and marching bands, including the Sudler Flag of Honor in 1991. At his retirement in 2008, after 30 years at Herndon High School, Bergman was presented with a Resolution- Expression of Appreciation from the Town of Herndon. The current band director is Kathleen Schoelwer .
- Robotics team

Herndon High school has also been home to Team 116, a group of high schoolers who build robots to compete in the FIRST robotics competition, since 1999, when they moved from South Lakes High School. The team is known as "Epsilon delta", meaning "with small changes come big differences". They are mentored by Dave Lavery.

- Scottie Reynolds ('06), Starting point guard for Villanova University Wildcats, named a McDonald's All-American, Reynolds was named the 2006-07 Big East Rookie of the Year.
- Brandon Guyer ('04), Professional Baseball Player. Played college baseball at UVA and was then signed by the Cubs on July 6, 2007.
- Angie Goff ('97), Television news traffic anchor for WUSA-TV in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
- David Wain ('85), Actor and comedian. Most notably starred on the Comedy Central television show Stella alongside Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter. Now runs a popular website that hosts internet shows such as Horrible People and his own Wainy Days.
- Mark and Michael Riddick ('94), Artists and underground musicians, most notably in The Soil Bleeds Black
