- Applied Technology Magnet
-
The ATM program is available to entering freshmen with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The program focuses on helping students become acquainted with technology and its uses in the real world, and fostering an inclination to work in technology related fields. The focus is reinforced by the use of technology in the class (such as computers, accelerometers, motion sensors, and Lego Mindstorms), by having the students do projects that make use of the technology, by inviting guest speakers from NASA, and by taking the students on field trips to places such as JPL, and the Griffith Observatory amongst others. Internships at JPL and other NASA offices are also offered to students in the ATM program.
- Merit Scholars
-
The Merit Scholars Program is available to entering freshmen with a minimum grade point average of 3.3, ready to enter Algebra 1-2, average attendance and citizenship, and a desire for achievement. The program provides an opportunity for students to take Lakewood's rigorous Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Students with at least a 3.3 unweighted GPA at graduation receive a Lakewood High School Merit Scholar diploma, a medallion, and wear distinguished Merit Scholar honor apparel.
