    Daughters of Norway Thelma Lodge No. 26: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Church, 2005 Colby, Everett. A program on fjord horses will be presented by Corrine Logan from Willows Edge Farm. Membership is open to women and girls over age 13 who are of Scandinavian descent.

    EVERETT — It must have felt like deja vu for Everett and Meadowdale at the 3A District 1 championship on Saturday at Cascade High School. The two teams battled for the district title last year with the Mavericks edging out Everett in five games.

  • Cascade High School is a secondary school located in Everett, Washington, United States which caters to grades 9-12 and has an annual enrollment of approximately 1,933 students. Students attending Cascade High School live primarily within the city of Everett, but some live in Mill Creek, Snohomish, and Mukilteo. The Cascade mascot is the Bruin and the school's colors are crimson and grey.
  • Academic highlights
  • To graduate, students attending Cascade High School (as well as other high schools in the Everett School District) must achieve a satisfactory grade on a "culminating exhibition" project (which involves the completion of a scholarly paper, an autobiographical paper and a research project), presented to a panel of teachers and community members. In addition to a broad series of disciplines, the school offers Advanced Placement programs in subjects such as history, science, art, and English.

  • As a part of Wesco 4A, Cascade High School remains competitive each year in various sports including men's baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, track and field, cross-country, wrestling, and swimming. Women's sports offerings include tennis, basketball, volleyball, soccer, fast-pitch softball, cross-country, track and field, swimming, golf, and bowling.

  • Known for their ground and pound game the Cascade Bruins are a Wing T offense and have a hard nose defense thats known for it's shutout.
  • 2005: Lead by "Mr. Football" J.P Oliver, with Dirk Snel (Junior quarterback / kicker), Ben Kendo (Offensive/defensive lineman) , and a crushing defense tied for 3rd in state 4A division.
  • The last playoff appearance by the Bruins was by the team of 2007; where they were run over by “passing power house” Eastlake High School. Standout offensive player’s included three of Cascades “Four Horsemen”,(Lorne Bridgford, Julian Willis, and Paul Heer) and Offensive lineman Femi Abebefe. On Defense the Herald Defense player of the year, Nick Morrison along with the three "horseman" at defensive back.
  • After a disappointing year in 2008 (with do it all hybrid Quarterback Aaron Frye) the Bruins missed the playoffs for the first time in 5 years.
  • The Cascade Bruins have started the 2009 season with a shutout victory against, (the once power house) Oak Harbor High School. The 15-0 victory is setting the standard of defense Cascade is known for.
  • Track & Field
  • Sprinting events held in the area have been dominated for the past several years by the Cascade Track & Field team.
  • Whitney Hooks (2006) was the first person to ever win an individual state championship four years in a row. She won the shotput four years as well as the discuss her junior and senior years of high school. She initially signed an NLI with the University of Washington, but she has since transferred to California.
  • In 2006 Austin Curran tied the school record in the 100m dash with a time of 10.85. He placed 4th at the state finals of the 100m dash and also helped the relay team finish 5th. He also qualified for the 200m and helped the relay win the Eason title as well.
  • Also in 2006 Eric Williams became the District 1 Champion in the 400m dash edging out Issac Tiechgrabb. Eric won the race with a time of 49.8. He also ran on the District 1 winning 4x100m relay team.
  • In 2007, Derek Sepe won the "trifecta" by finishing first in three events. He edged out Ashtin Mott of Lake Stevens, in both the 100m and the 200m with times of 10.95 and 22.54. He also helped the 4×100m relay secure its 3rd consecutive league title.
  • In 2008 the Bruin relay team which dubbed the "Four Horsemen" Heer, Derek Sepe, Unknown, and Lorne Bridgeforddominated their opponents with an average margin of 20m. The Bruins first secured the fastest time in the state (43.12), at a dual meet in Shoreline, Washington with a 30m margin of victory. The Four Horsemen had a few struggles in the beginning of their season due to line up changes, but they soon fixed the kinks to run another stellar time at Lake Stevens high school. Running a state best at the time of 42.86, the Bruins smoked the accredited Lake Stevens Vikings on their home turf for the second year in a row. At the Everett City Championships, the Cascade relay led the field to a smoking 42.45 FAT finish which earned the Bruins their 4th consecutive City title and was the best time ever run in the state in 2008. The following week Cascade demolished its school record in the event, breaking the previous record of 42.22h to now 42.03h. The official time for the Four Horsemen was 42.64 which got the Bruins their 4th consecutive WesCo North league title. At the District meet Cascade automatically qualified for the finals of the 4x100m relay. They ran the best and most dominate performance of their career finishing first with a time of 42.40.
  • Also Lorne Bridgford qualified for the State tournament in the 100m dash at a time of 11.11. At the State meet he finished last in the 2nd heat of the 100m preliminaries.
  • All together the Bruin Sprint team has 7 league title 5 conference titles, Eason Invite top 8 medals, Shoreline top 8 medals, and 16 state medals.

The University of Washington, the most-preferred four-year school among graduating seniors, reported a 5-year GPA average of 3.13 in UW freshmen from Cascade High School.
