    EVERETT — The green plants have barely sprouted above their handmade wooden planters on the rooftop of the Everett Family YMCA. Eight planter boxes each filled with 2,000 pounds of dirt and gravel frame the four corners of the roof. One larger box sits in the middle.

    Army Sgt. Derek Frymire is serving in Iraq with the 4th Stryker Brigade out of Fort Lewis. This is second deployment to Iraq. His wife is Phomaly and his 3-year-old son is Landon. His parents are Michael and Rebecca Frymire of Monroe.

  • Henry M. Jackson High School is a public high school in Mill Creek, Washington. Construction of the school was completed in 1994 by the Everett School District, and it is named after the late U.S. Senator from Washington State Henry M. Jackson, an Everett, Washington native.
  • Other high schools in the Everett School District are Cascade High School, Everett High School, and Sequoia Alternative School.
  • Intermediate schools that feed into Jackson are Heatherwood Middle School, located adjacent to the high school, and Gateway Middle School, located in the Silver Firs area northeast of Mill Creek.

  • Students at Jackson are required to complete a scholarly paper, autobiographical letter, and senior learning project and present to a panel of staff and community members as part of the Everett School District's "Culminating Exhibition" graduation requirement. The school offers an array of academic options including Advanced Placement classes in English, history, math and chemistry.

  • The school offers a variety of clubs and extra-curricular activities for students, including band, a robotics team, TSA, GSA, DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, National Honor Society, Key Club, Leaders of the Pack, Spanish Club, French Club, Young Life, Project Green, Dance Team, Drama Society, Knowledge Bowl, Math Club, and Multicultural Club.

  • In 2002 seven students were accused of paddling up to 30 freshmen as part of an initiation rite and were suspended from school. The students targeted freshmen boys to spank with a wooden paddle, police and school officials said. Until this event, a paddle had been used to represent school spirit, but was changed because of this event.
  • In 2009, there were several incidents that were reported on the news. Early in the year T-shirts for a Pep Rally were "recalled" for inappropriate content with reference to urbandictionary.com.Near the end of the school year, students provoked a food fight that resulted in news coverage and a threat to cancel the prom.
  • Sports
  • In 2006, Jackson's baseball team reached the 4A State Championships, beating the Auburn Trojans 7-1. They were placed 2nd in the nation, behind the Woodlands High School (Texas), and had a 27-0 record during the season. The Toronto Blue Jays baseball team selected former high school baseball star Travis Snider with their 1st round (14th overall) pick in the 2006 MLB draft.
