School Notes:
  • Kamiakin High School is a high school located in northwestern Kennewick, Washington. Kamiakin was founded in 1970 at 600 N Arthur Street in Kennewick, and went through a remodel in the early 2000s.
  • The school is named after Kamiakin, a chief of the Yakama Tribe in the 1800s and a leader of the Native American side in the Yakima War.
  • Academics: Kamiakin High is generally considered to be the top public high school in all of southeastern Washington of size 3A or 4A (along with Hanford High School in Richland). The school's WASL and Iowa Standard Test scores annually rank among the statewide leaders, and almost always lead the area. The school's DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America—the national high school marketing club) program sends more students to the state competition than any other area school's, despite the aforementioned disparity in student population. The school's Knowledge Bowl and Math Competition teams are also frequent winners at state competitions.
  • Athletics: The school's colors are scarlet and gold, and its teams are called "Braves". Kamiakin High, or KaHS as it is known, is classified as a 3A school, and it competes in the hybrid 3A/4A Columbia Basin League. Kamiakin's biggest rivals in most sports are Southridge High (located in southwest Kennewick) and Kennewick High School (in the east). However, in football, their annual game with the much larger Pasco High School ranks as one of the fiercest high school rivalries in the state. Kamiakin's football and soccer teams play their home games at Neil F. Lampson Stadium.
  • Kamiakin High School is also the home school for most of the members of a dance team that frequently competes at national competitions, and it counts Indiana Pacers forward Scot Pollard as an alumnus.
