PARKERSBURG - A Wood County couple is relieved to have their 8-year-old son home safely after he wandered away Tuesday afternoon, prompting a search by county officials and neighbors. Kathy Jiles made a frantic 911 call shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday after she discovered her son Ben Jiles, a second-grader at Emerson Elementary School, was nowhere to be found.
Teachers receive Golden Apple Award (Parkersburg News and Sentinel)

PARKERSBURG - Four area teachers have received Golden Apple Awards from the Arch Coal Foundation. John Snider, Arch Coal Foundation vice president of external affairs for the eastern region, said though the 24 recipients named for 2009 Golden Apple Awards did not receive the full Arch Coal Award, their work has not gone unnoticed.
Schools to hold Mini-Relay for Life events (Parkersburg News and Sentinel)

PARKERSBURG - Schools throughout Wood County will be holding fundraising events in the coming week to generate funds for Relay for Life. The Mini-Relay for Life events come in various shapes and sizes, but all share the common goal of raising money for cancer research. The Parkersburg Relay for Life will be held May 15-16 at City Park in Parkersburg.
