Preble High School is a public high school in the Green Bay, Wisconsin School District. The school draws students from Green Bay, Bellevue, and New Franken. The name comes from the former town of Preble, which is now part of northeastern Green Bay and New Franken, Wisconsin.
Academics
Curricular activities focus on the arts and technology, with programs in computer-assisted design, and mathematical analysis. Preble's fine arts department is popular, with strong band, orchestra, and choir programs. The school's annual musical is in November and annual play is in May. The school choirs stage a variety show, titled "Cabaret", every spring, which includes a dinner show, where the dinner is prepared by the school's culinary arts program. There are also prominent jazz band and vocal jazz/madrigal groups.
In 2004-05, Preble celebrated its 50th year. The entire school year was documented on video in a project called "Preble All Access: 2004-05 Video Diary".
Extra-curricular activities
Music and drama
Preble's music and drama department has produced the musicals Guys & Dolls, West Side Story, and many others. Most recently however, the school's musical theatre program has flourished with productions such as Beauty and the Beast (under the direction of Sue McAllister), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and "All Shook Up"(under the direction of Kevin Flogel). The 2009-2010 musical has been announced as Les Misérables.
Athletics
Preble's athletic director is Jack Drankoff. Under his guidance, boys' soccer, boys' and girls' cross country, boys' and girls' track and field, and boys' and girls' golf have all advanced to the WIAA state tournaments or meets. The girls' golf team made it to the state tournament three consecutive years (2005, 2006, and 2007).
In 2006, the Preble football achieving only one win. The previous season Preble was ranked third in the state prior to the playoffs. In the past two years, Preble football has been ranked 10th to 15th in the state and made the playoffs.
School referendum
Preble High School, which was designed for roughly 1700 students, currently holds more than 2200. In 2006, a referendum to create a new school in northeastern Brown County, Wisconsin to alleviate overcrowding was defeated by a 2-to-1 margin on November 6, 2006.
In 2007, the possibility was raised of creating a school in the former Port Plaza Mall region to relieve overcrowding in all schools.
Notable alumni
Tony Bennett, men's basketball coach at the University of Virginia and former NBA player. Bennett also participated in the 1991 Pan American Games.
Kevin Stemke, former National Football League player.
