Middleton is located along the western shore of Lake Mendota and is one of the fastest growing communities in Dane County. Middleton's school nickname is the Cardinals. Their athletic teams play at the WIAA Division 1 level, and they are part of the Big 8 Conference, which consists of teams from the Southern Wisconsin area. Middleton also has an alternative high school (Middleton Alternative School High or MASH), where students also take classes.
