Although I would still recommend this school it is without its problems. First, there is no recess and gym is only given once a week when it is mandated to have it twice. As for music programs, don't count on it. If they do offer any sort of instrument, it is only for a handful of students. The PTA tries do do their best but can only do so much without parent support. I suggest that if parents want some changes done they need to get involved. Please attend the meetings to voice your opinion.

P.S. 31 is an excellent school that continues to strive for academic excellence, quality education with enrichment and/or extracurricular activites. They continue to support/provide the best education & quality care for the children of the community with limited funding. Quality education is priority! It is the parents/guardians responsibility to provide recess & gym activites during after school hours for their children. Recess & playing in the classroom will not provide the learning foundation your child(ren) will need to succeed in the future. Education & learning is the key to the success of our children's future. You can depend on P.S.31 to invest in your child(ren)'s education with care.

P. S. 31 is an excellent school. Not only did they provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for me, they''re doing the same for my son now. The staff goes above and beyond for all students. While the school is still very traditional, they''re trying very hard to be as open to new ideas as possible. They''ve become much more open to parental input lately, which is proving to be very effective in areas like fundraising and enrichment programs. Retired staffers have returned and are volunteering their time to provide students with programs that have been cut, such as music, art, chess, etc.. The school does not and has never given their students recess. Their main has always been academics, and that's why their students do so well after leaving. My son loves his school, his teachers and other staff members know him by first and last name, and he's happy to go there everyday.

I liked PS 31 from the moment I stepped foot into the school. My son had terrible separation anxiety when first starting Pre-K but all of that changed. He now loves his school. Why? Because of his beloved teacher, Ms. Fogelman. This teacher treats each child as though they were her own. Our hearts sing when we are in her presence. The para professional, Ms. Carmela is also a joy. Dedicated, kind and hard working teachers who go above and beyond for their students are what my child has at PS 31.
I am grateful every single day. I have seen a big change in my wild, rambunctious child who found coloring boring before starting school. He is now a patient, focused person who is absorbed in his work. The concentration that previously was lavished on Legos and Transformers has now spilled into everything he does... especially projects. Wether done as a family, in a group or on his own, my 4 year old child enjoys learning and immersing himself in school activities. Isn't that marvelous?! He feels a great deal of pride and joy in the stars and compliments he finds written by his teachers on his work. My son is learning at light speed. Each day he surprises me with new information.
There are also wonderful ways to be involved as a parent in my child's school. I can come in and teach a lesson on a Fabulous Friday. I can surprise the class as a mystery reader. I've heard other parents talk of feeling like they are a part of a community. Well, I feel as though I am a part of the class. Perhaps I speak too soon. After all, I know only of a pre-K experience; however, I feel a strong affinity to PS 31. It is known as a Blue Ribbon School Of Excellence, which is tremendous! Along with the strong academics (a necessity) I give it a blue ribbon for the kindness, thoughtfulness and comfort it has been for my family. PS- The school now offers recess!

P.S. 31 is an excellent school. My son is attending pre-K with Ms. Fogelman and Ms. Carmela this year. He is having a joyous time with his classmates. I have watched just over these few short months his vocabulary grow and his desire for learning push him further and further. I am such a proud momma! He especially loves the nature walks and the math lessons.
