The Haverhill YMCA awarded its first Educator of the Year honor Wednesday night to Matt Castonguay, fifth-grade teacher at Bradford Elementary School. "This is amazing," Castonguay, 27, said after receiving the award. "Thank you. Thank you."

Air Force Airman Daniel A. LeBlanc graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

The Haverhill YMCA will honor the six teachers nominated for Educator of the Year and will announce the winner of what it hopes will become an annual award. Colleagues, parents and students sent nominations. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Haverhill YMCA at 81 Winter St.
