Three boats from the West Side Rowing Club finished high enough in Sunday's Head of the Charles regatta to automatically qualify for a return to Boston to compete again next year, WSRC head coach Boris Kusturic said.

A Buffalo homicide detective brought up on department charges for talking to The Buffalo News about a Williamsville South High School student accused of assaulting a classmate pleaded innocent during an informal hearing Wednesday in Buffalo Police Headquarters.

Curtis Byers apparently did not want to leave his jail cell to go to court Wednesday. When he finally got there, he had no interest in the deal prosecutors were offering him.

Williamsville South High School is a high school located in Williamsville, New York, a suburb of Buffalo, New York. South is one of three high schools in the Williamsville Central School District, along with Williamsville North High School and Williamsville East High School.
History
The school was known as Williamsville High School until the opening of additional high schools within the Williamsville Central School District necessitated adding the word "South."
In 1994, the school's football team advanced to the New York State championship game (Class B), but was defeated by one point.
On May 1st, 2007, the school was evacuated when a note was found in a bathroom claiming that a bomb was in the school. Police found no bomb and later arrested a 14 year old boy in connection with the note.
Both symphonic bands at Williamsville South have long received accolades for musicianship and performance ability. Recently, at a competition in Virginia Beach, Virginia, both of Williamsville South's bands received ratings of "Superior."
Also, the bands performed for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), where they each received the highest award possible, Gold with Distinction.
Recently, Williamsville South was added to the historical registry making the school a historical monument.

Neil Abercrombie, Class of 1955 (Williamsville HS), member of the United States House of Representatives from Hawaii.
Jim Dombrowski, Class of 1981, professional football player for the New Orleans Saints.
Wendie Malick, Class of 1968, actress.
Joyce Carol Oates, Class of 1956 (Williamsville HS), award-winning author and professor of English at Princeton University.
