Musselman Company located an apple processing plant in Inwood, West Virginia in 1920 and in the late 1940s when the residents of southern Berkeley County needed a new high school, the Musselman Company provided them with that school, which opened in the 1949-1950 school year. It was only fitting that the school be called Musselman High School. The nickname "Applemen" was coined by the school's second principal, Kenneth Waldeck, while serving as football and basketball coach in the early 1950s.
